I had to spend a lot of time convincing my publisher that this was a good idea, because they thought it was going to scare off readers, that no single woman wants to sit on the subway reading a book called Spinster. "Spinster" is also a word that people have very strong reactions to. It’s a book that’s about history as well as the contemporary experience. My husband actually bought this for himself, but I poached it immediately afterwards to try out myself. Most of what I knew about him came from the Rachel Bloom novelty video (don’t watch this in public, or around people who don’t like the word “fuck”). ![]() In fact, while I knew the titles of some of his works, unlike Stephen King I didn’t have any real knowledge of the content of any of his book either. Shamefully, I hadn’t actually read any Ray Bradbury before picking up this book.
